Abbreviated as OS, an Operating system is a compilation of technologies responsible for managing and harmonizing various activities and sharing of the resources of a computer. The operating system acts as a host for application programs that are run on the machine. It also facilitates the computer hardware to connect and work with the softwares present on the computer. The operating system is a medium through which the user interacts with the computer. It can perform vital tasks, such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, controlling peripheral devices etc.
