A system utility is a trivial program that is very specific and limited in capability and is designed to carry out an explicit task. Utilities are different from applications usually in terms of functionality and complexity and are often installed as memory-resident programs. They are basically used for managing and optimizing a computer system such as registry optimizers, system performance boosters, PC tweakers etc, that enhance the speed and performance of a system.
