A security update is a largely released fix or patch that is intended to rectify a vulnerability to hacking or viral infection. Updates were initially sent by Microsoft and were usually in the form of e-mails to secure Windows from malevolent attacks. Now days, updates are sent by most software companies in order to keep their security updates current and to protect the system against malicious online activities. Updates are also released as to provide enhancements, or to fix problems or bugs that were discovered since the original release.
